Low Platelets?

Usually associated with viral fever especially Dengue and Malaria. However, persistent low level of platelets needs investigation

When an individual develops liver disease, it complicates as portal hypertension which leads to increase in size of the spleen. This causes excessive destruction of platelets.

Early liver disease or cirrhosis will not have any symptom. Low platelets may be a clincher in these cases to get evaluated for liver disease. Usually patients have low platelets for few months before actually presenting with complication

Do not ignore low platelets as viral fever if it persists beyond couple of weeks. Get investigated.
